WHAT ARE TERPENES?
traditional folk remedies meet science
SWEET SMELL OF HEALING
Terpenes are a class of compounds that give plants their distinctive aroma and flavor. They are what give roses their unique smell and vanilla beans their delicious flavor. Though scientists are only beginning to study the health benefits of terpenes, they have been widely used in folk medicine for centuries.
Most people will notice a difference between isolated CBD, and full-spectrum products like ours. This difference is the result of the interplay between CBD, terpenes, and other plant compounds. The “entourage effect” means that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Each of our 5 formulas include a unique combination of terpenes designed to enhance its intended effects.
Beta-Caryophyllene, or BCP, has a spicy scent and is among the terpenes found in black pepper, copaiba, cloves, and hops. Beta-Caryophyllene is unique because it is the only terpene that can bind with receptors in your body’s own endocannabinoid system, offering some of the same benefits that other cannabinoids do. That’s why it is featured in our Relief formulation.
As its name suggests, limonene has a fresh, citrusy, cheerful scent. Limonene is one of nature’s most common terpenes and in addition to hemp, it can be found in foods like lemons, dill, and celery seeds. Limonene is known to be an antioxidant. Our Uplift formulation has a big boost of limonene.
Best known for giving lavender its distinctively soothing aroma, linalool is found in hundreds of plants. Linalool is known for its antimicrobial properties and relaxing effects. This makes linalool a perfect addition to our Calm formula.
Like a fresh forest breeze, pinene is found in basil and rosemary, as well as pine. Pinene is a team player in our Rest recipe. Besides pine trees, pinene is also found in herbs like basil and rosemary. Pinene’s potent powers can help open up your airways, as well as function as an antiseptic.
Due to its earthy, floral aroma, ocimene is often used to sweeten product fragrances. It is naturally found in orchids as well as black currants and flowering herbs such as basil and parsley. Ocimene is known to have energizing effects. Ocimene helps harmonize our Balance blend.
